Myriant Corporation and
Jonhson Matthey_Davy Technologies
announced today the successful production of
Bio-based butandediol (Bio-based BDO) and
Bio-based tetrahydrofuran (Bio-based THF)
made from Myriant's bio-based succinic acid.
The qualificationn work was conducted at
JM's Davy facility at Teeside, England using
* bio-succinic acid from Myriant and
* the JM Davy BDO/THF process
About Myriant's bio-succinic acid
- Myriant's flagship bio-succinic acid plant in Lake Providence, Louisiana, USA,
is currently being commissioned and
is the largest bio-succinic acid plant in the World.
About JM Davy BDO/THF process
- JM Davy has licensed 800,000 MT per year of
annual capacity for the production of
* Butanediol (BDO)
* Tetrahydrofuran (THF) and
* Gamma butyrolactone (GBL)
and representing approximately of 25 % of the global installed capacity.
Reduced Carbon footprind at competitive cost level
- Combining the efficiency of
Myriant's bio-succinic acid process and
JM Davy BDO/THF process
the biobutandediol and biotetrahydrofuran
has an overall carbon efficiency of 87 %,
believed to be substantially better than
the carbon efficiency achieved in the direct fermentation route to
bio-butanediol
